Marbella Guide

Updated: Mar 9, 2023

Marbella is a city rich in history and culture. There are so many gorgeous streets to walk around, beaches to relax on, and an unreal pick of restaurants suited to everyone. There are places to relax and work and bars and nightclubs to dance the night away! Marbella has something for everyone, and you are guaranteed a good time if you research before you go. Below I’ve created a handy guide for you, with my top tips for a Marbella trip!

Money

Marbella is a very modern city, and you won’t find yourself having much trouble paying whilst you’re there.

Currency

Euro €

Accepted payments

Both cash and card are widely accepted across Marbella, but I’d recommend carrying some cash with you just in case

Changing money: I’d advise doing this in the UK before your trip, using official money exchange offices or banks - see here for guidance

Getting Around the City

You’ll find it easy to get around, with loads of options at your feet. Depending on what you’re looking to do, I’ve outlined some different options.

Walking

This is the cheapest way to get around the city and gives you a chance to explore more places less accessible by vehicle - especially older parts of the towns less accessible by car.

Taxi

Just like any other city, only used licensed taxis, as well as taking note of the car registration. Key fact: if you're a passenger in an unlicensed taxi in Spain you could be fined up to 600€.

Car rental

Before driving abroad there are many things you need to be aware of that may differ from the UK. Check here for all the information you will need.

Bus - Marbella has many local bus services to connect you to areas surrounding the towns. Marbella Bus Station is located on Avenida del Trapiche, North of the town centre.

Things To Do & Places To Visit

I was lucky enough to tick off a lot during my time in Marbella, and I couldn’t recommend the below enough. Try and squeeze some of these activities onto your list and I guarantee you will not regret it!

Peurto Banus

With such a beautiful beach and seafront restaurants, Peurto Banus is a must. Full of boutiques, super-yachts, and luxury sports cars on every corner, you definitely get to experience a taste of luxury here.

Marbella Old Town

My personal favourite spot in Marbella. Full of historic narrow and cobbled streets, it is the most gorgeous place to walk about. The old town is filled with boutiques, pavement cafés, and a great selection of restaurants.

La Cañada shopping centre

The largest shopping centre on the Costa del Sol! Home to over 150 shops, you’re able to do some retail therapy here.

Water activities

If you’re a thrill-seeker, you’ve got jet skis, parasailing, and paddle-boarding at the marina. However, if you prefer something more relaxing, you could hire a yacht, go for a boat ride, or paddle in the sea. Before participating in these activities make sure to have the right travel insurance to cover you.

Wine tasting and tapas tours

No trip to Spain is complete without some tapas. Bonus tip: you can often get free tapas when ordering a drink!

Day trips

Some of my favourite destinations to check out are Andalucía and Malaga where you can visit cities such as Seville and Granada in Andalucia, and see a wide range of museums and beaches in Malaga.

Nightlife

Marbella is very well known for its glamorous nightlife, there is no shortage of clubs and late-night bars to visit.

Playa Del Cable, aka Banana Beach

This beach has a number of beach bars with some playing music - a perfect place to chill out and relax.

It is worth signing up to travel alerts before heading to any country, as guidelines may change at any time. You can do this easily here. Happy travels!
